Abstract

Waste management in educational settings, from schools to Islamic schools (madrasah), to universities, is a crucial issue that requires serious attention. The availability of adequate facilities and infrastructure in schools is key to successfully creating an optimal learning environment. The government, through the Ministry of Environment, has been working to address environmental issues in schools. The goal of this initiative is to encourage schools to develop environmental awareness and a culture of care, and to optimize waste management in educational institutions through the "Environmental Care and Culture Movement in Schools" (GPBLHS) program. This initiative is organized by the Padang Pariaman Regency Environment, Housing, Settlement Areas, and Land Agency. The initiative's implementation consists of three main stages: preparation, substance, and closure. The results of this initiative demonstrate that resolving waste problems in a region cannot be done by a single entity. Waste management in a region must also integrate waste management within schools as educational institutions. Therefore, one concrete effort to address waste issues in schools is through the implementation of the GPBLHS program.
